Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Compounds the English team's Fitness Problems.

'Serious blow' for the English camp after Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson increased the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the playing area early on day two in the Melbourne Test against Australia.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his left leg immediately following a delivery in his spell at the MCG.

The touring camp reported Atkinson reported "discomfort" and was to take time away from the action to undergo evaluation "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the series beginning on 4 January begins at the end of the week.

The English side has already lost key quicks Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was left out from the previous Test, then recalled for the Melbourne Test to fill the void.

The county bowler improved at the MCG, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman being one of only three English batsmen to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he came back on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland Scott Boland caught behind.

Yet, on the final ball of his spell, he delivered a change of pace to the batsman and immediately felt for his hamstring.

Atkinson returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission of the third.
