Followers Call for Arrest of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the pop star are urging that a person who jumped a barrier and grabbed the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared clip depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen shoving aside camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the actors walked down a yellow carpet accompanied by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the event by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "free after being taken in", though court documents indicated that he was due to be present on the next day. It is uncertain if he was charged.
Record of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram account contains clips of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last winter.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is obviously a legal violation," wrote an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user wrote.
Followers Express Concern Over Ariana's Safety
Numerous followers blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said another comment on Instagram.
A number of attendees also criticised event staff at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while others requested digital services to remove Mr Wen's content.
Response and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande appeared shocked when she was approached by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Many of supporters had congregated in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore venue, including a number who had stood in line for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The motion picture, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-film interpretation of the acclaimed theatrical production Wicked, which centers on the surprising relationship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The show itself is a derivative of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and earned a dozen Academy Award nods, earning a pair for excellent wardrobe and set decoration.
