Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Series on BBC
The beloved police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh season, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part season created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The previous series wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, plot details hinted.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new installment."
He added: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the news and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful television series of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.
The finale of series six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
However, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
