The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several agonizing personal histories for characters including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks amazing. However, I felt that an element was lost in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of that title, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.

But for me, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the series will have some surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening appears as among these.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of the second series, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
