The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
