This Horror Movie's Unusual Finale Revealed

If you're wanting a slasher-horror movie that delivers guilty pleasure while making you wince, chances are Bone Lake has grabbed your interest. A recent horror movie from director Mercedes Bryce Morgan debuted in theaters on the third of October with an absurd premise and a evocative label to suit.

Note: Key reveals ahead for the finale of Bone Lake.

A Combination of Comedy and Horror

With a name like Bone Lake and an introductory scene featuring people dashing stark naked through the forest—only to be hit with a bow in private parts—it's safe to assume there's ample comic relief throughout the story. Even, the film's ending, which show the central pair exhausted and injured yet laughing uncontrollably together, carry a feeling of dark humor.

It would be necessary to seek out a cause to chuckle over, too, if you went through what Diego and Sage face in Bone Lake. A pair riddled with relationship problems from the start—lack of communication, disappointing physical relations, an disproportionate load of financial responsibility, etc.—their relationship is put to the test when additional characters, Will and the character Cin, interrupt their couple's getaway.

A Dark Change

At first seeming to be a contrast of opposites between the two pairs—Sage and Diego are awkward and working-class, whereas Will and Cin have a wealthy, luxurious way of life and are seen making out on all available spots—becomes sinister as the getaway unfolds. Will and Cin manipulate Sage and Diego's insecurities in their relationship. They tell untruths and gossip about the other couple, stating to know about an cheating and other internal drama.

These anxieties explode in the most extreme way imaginable when Diego and Sage find out that Will and Cin aren't just here at Bone Lake by chance: they own it and have been luring pairs to the estate in order to coax them to be unfaithful on their loved ones. The reason? Since Will and Cin are in fact brother and sister. Following their forbidden relationship was exposed by their mother and father and they were split apart by force, they decided to take revenge on the world (including their relatives). Given that the society condemned them simply for loving who they want, then they'll turn against the everyone. Will and Cin's objective is to hold up a mirror to all the duos they finally end up eliminating, in an effort to show that their affection is no less real (or invalid) as the connection of these additional duos they try to split.

Surprising Strengths

However, what Will and Cin fail to consider is that Sage and Diego, despite their poor dialogue with one another, do care for and cherish each other. It just took having a killer pair try to end their relationship and take their lives to realize it. If that sounds grim, it is not shown that way. Bone Lake's style is more camp than genuine horror.

The film ends with Diego and Sage working together to get away from Will and Cin's murderous intentions. Notably is that while, at the beginning of the feature, you sense a huge gap in the partnership between Sage and Diego in comparison to Cin and Will, by the conclusion, Bone Lake turns it around. Cin and Will separate to hunt Diego and Sage, but Diego and Sage are talking more effectively now. They join forces to butcher Will with a chainsaw. They after that confront the character Cin, who meets a bloody fate at the bottom of Bone Lake's body of water—but not before the character Diego takes back the marriage symbol destined for Sage that Will had taken and gifted to the character Cin.

Aftereffects

Following the events of their double murder, smeared with bodily fluids, Diego and Sage are seated on the end of a vessel. Ironically, this is the nearest they've connected since the outset of the film, given that all their partnership issues have been laid out for the two to see, and all they have remaining are their beaten and wounded physiques. As though to confirm their renewed intimacy and intimate understanding of one another, Diego leans over to put the wedding ring on Sage's finger and, when she rotates to examine it in the light, the two break into laughter.

One can easily to grasp the cause: At the time, Will offered engagement to the character Cin, it was a picturesque, affectionate instant. However, when Diego does the same for the character Sage, they've just gotten away from a terrifying experience. Nonetheless, Diego's marriage offer to the character Sage is free from deceit, just the realization that they've come out of the most horrific event of their existence and, despite everything, they still desire to share the rest of their life with each other.

Filmmaker's View

However, as director Mercedes Bryce Morgan notes, the conclusion is not a guarantee of a fairy-tale ending for the couple.

"After enduring that scenario with someone where you go through a violent killing spree, what do you come out of that? What actions do you take as a person? Thus I aimed to depict all of the instants there in unison where it's this elation of 'thank goodness' and 'are we receiving what we've dreamed of, but what the fuck occurred? How in the world do we do at this point?' And just that sinking in of reality of 'how does this affect for us {now|today|from
